We started our flower farm in 2017 while living in Nolensville, TN! It was an amazing experience for our family, and in that process, we learned so much! In 2023 we relocated to West Michigan, and while our family is still settling into a new routine and growing flowers on a much smaller scale, I am excited to continue to share information about what we learned during our time in Tennessee. I would love to have you follow along with me as I continue to share about farming and learning to run a business!
Lavender Gift Boxes
I was able to find some time over the last month to start working on our lavender gift boxes! Our littlest is just beginning to settle into a routine, and I made several batches of our lavender soaps, body butter, lotion bars, and bath salts during his nap times, while big sister was in school.
Dried Gomphrena Wreath
With the changing of the seasons, we are starting to enjoy finding ways to fill our house with dried flowers from this past summer’s harvest. One of our dried flower projects for the fall is to use them to make a beautiful wreath for the house!
Fall Farm Update
The weather is beginning to cool down and on the farm we are switching over to our fall tasks. The flower garden has a few dahlias and other flowers sending up blooms still, but for the most part our growing season has come to an end.
Summer Farm Update
June is always a special time on the farm, when our lavender fields are in full bloom, and this year was no different! As lavender season begins to slow down our cut flower garden is just starting to blossom and sunflowers will be blooming shortly as well! While we are not planning on any public farm events in the next few weeks, the farm is still available on a reservation only basis for photo sessions and uPick flowers bouquets. We are also preparing for lots of sunflowers in the coming months and are looking forward to several uPick sunflower events and sunflower field photo sessions in September.
The Ducks are Back!
Over the last few months though we have intermittently brought up getting ducks again. Our daughter absolutely loves animals and we missed the fresh eggs every day. Plus the ducks were very entertaining! We kept holding off though because of different projects and commitments that were keeping us busy. However, in mid-March we finally pulled the trigger and bought three grown ducks.
Lavender Bouquets & Upcoming Events
In just over a week, we will be kicking off our 2020 Lavender Season! Throughout the month of June and July we are offering several ways to get fresh lavender bouquets from the farm, as well as opportunities to enjoy the lavender fields (while following social distancing guidelines).
Elopement Packages
We recently expanded our offerings to include two different elopement packages for those who would like us to handle the wedding details and just show up with the dress, officiant, and photographer.

Sunflowers
Every spring, I am so excited to be back outside and working in the dirt, and this year is no different. Our family had a great time this past weekend kicking off our outdoor gardening season by planting over 1,000 sunflower seeds!

Lavender Field Photo Sessions
Every June, the lavender fields at Menkveld Farm are in full-bloom and provide a unique location for outdoor photos in Nashville! Last summer we opened up the farm for lavender photo sessions for the first time, and we were overwhelmed by the interest from photographers and clients all over Tennessee! We loved getting to meet so many different people at all stages in life and see how each photographer was able to capture the farm and their clients with their own unique style.
