It is National CSA Week, so I thought I this would be a great opportunity to talk a bit about what CSA’s are and why they are so important for the farming community!

We started our farm in 2017 with a single lavender field, and our most frequently asked questions are about how to grow lavender in Tennessee. So, we thought a book detailing how we grow lavender in our hot and humid climate would be a great first step into educating others. This will be the first of several courses we are planning to publish over the next year. We are also planning some in-person, educational tours and classes too!

It’s planning season on the farm (yes, planning, not planting)! For me, planning the next growing season starts when flowers are still in bloom the year before. I make notes about what I want to grow again, new things I want to try, how much I want to plant of each variety, and then order my seeds. I have most of this done before Thanksgiving and give myself permission to slow down for the rest of the year to focus on family. However, now that the new year has come, I am gearing up for warmer weather and looking forward to having flowers on the farm once again - and I have a long list of things to plan out before spring arrives. So here is what’s going on at our farm these days!

Our first frost arrived this past week, and since we don’t grow anything in hoop houses or green houses, that means our flower season is officially finished. It’s bittersweet as I am already missing the fresh flowers on my kitchen table. However, winter is also a much needed rest for our bodies and mind after a busy season tending to the flower fields. But don’t get me wrong; just because the flowers are finished blooming, it doesn’t mean that we have nothing to do. So, what does a flower farmer do over the winter?

I am excited that Fall is finally here! I love all the seasons for the different things they offer, but if I had to choose, I think fall would be my favorite. The dahlias are blooming, and the cooler days after a long, hot summer can’t be beat! While we are starting to make plans to put the farm to bed for the winter, we still have a couple more things taking place on the farm before that first frost hits, and we would love to have you join us here!

Fall is just around the corner, and this month we are getting ready for lots of fun, farm events! We will have several uPick Sunflower days, another Picnic Date Night, and our first Family Day! Our sunflowers will start blooming at the end of this month and into early October. In addition to our farm events, we are also planning to be at the Nolensville Farmer's Market every Saturday through the end of October.

Summer is in full swing and it has been a busy couple of months here on the farm. As our summer events come to a close, I thought it would be a good time to share a recap of the happenings on the farm in June and July and let everyone know what to expect for the fall.

Summer evenings on the farm are some of my absolute favorite times, and this year we are excited to share that with others during our first Date Night in the Flower Fields event. Guests will be able to come to the farm when our sunflower field is at peak bloom and walk through the flower fields, take photos, harvest their own bouquet to take home, and enjoy a charcuterie picnic while listening to live music.

Lavender season will soon be upon us, and we are making preparations for lavender photo sessions, harvesting fresh bouquets, and hosting several events on the farm. Before lavender season kicks off, we wanted to share a quick update on our different lavender fields and let you know how you can enjoy the lavender this year.

Last summer we were blown away by the demand for sessions on our farm with the lavender, and couldn’t believe the number of people who wanted to come out to the visit the farm. Because of this, we were also able to identify some ways that we could improve the experience for those who come to the farm and are excited to offer some additional amenities on the farm during our lavender photo session!
